Phyllis N. (Mendala) Casey, 79, of New Braintree passed away peacefully surrounded by love and family on February 3, 2023.
Phyllis was born on March 13, 1943 to the late Stanley and and Edna (Orszulak) Mendala.
She will be forever mourned by her daughter, Irene Perry of Woonsocket, RI and her son, John Casey of Danielson, CT. Phyllis will also be missed by her brother, Michael Mendala of New Braintree; and her sisters, Patricia (Mendala) Skowyra of New Braintree and Michele (Mendala) Joyal of Gilbertville. She is survived by her grandchildren, Jason Beauchene, Justin Casey, Elyssa Perry and Alan Beauchene. Phyllis is also survived by many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
Phyllis graduated North Brookfield High School in 1960, afterwards working at Marane Oil and Tyree in both administrative and office management roles. Her greatest role however was that of mother and grandmother where she unconditionally loved and tirelessly supported her family without exception. Family, friends and strangers often benefitted from her generous heart as she always put her own needs second to that of others. Her heart also extended to her pets including her dogs Skinner, Max, Sonny, Koda & Callie. Phyllis was a devoted parishioner at St. Joseph’s church joyfully serving as a Eucharistic minister and helping to produce the weekly bulletin. She also enjoyed attending first Friday monthly services at the Shrine of Divine Mercy in Stockbridge, MA and family trips to Disney World.
A Funeral Mass will be held Wednesday, February 8th at 10am in St. Joseph’s Church, 296 North Main St., in North Brookfield. Calling hours will be held on Tuesday, February 7th, from 5pm to 7pm in the Varnum Funeral Home, Inc., 43 East Main St., in West Brookfield. Burial will be held in the spring.
