John Peter Gill, 92, of West Warren, died on Friday, January 13, 2023 at Southbridge Rehabilitation and Health Care Center.
He leaves his niece and caregiver, Dolores A. (Gill) Day and her husband Kenneth of West Brookfield, and two great-nephews, Christopher M. Day of Warren, and Shaun N. Day of Warren. He was predeceased by his brothers, Boleslaw in 2007, and Bronac in 1945 while serving with the Army Infantry in France. He was born in Chicopee, son of the late John and Anna (Fortuna) Gill.
He was a graduate of trade school, and worked as a steam pipe fitter. He was a member of the Local Plumber’s Union 104 for 40 years. He also served as an Auxiliary Sheriff with the Worcester County Sheriff’s Office.
Mr. Gill is a United States Army Veteran of the Korean War, and was a former Commander in the Warren VFW.
John enjoyed following the Red Sox, liked to golf, and also trying his luck at gambling in Las Vegas and Atlantic City. He also enjoyed traveling to Bermuda.
Calling hours for John will be held from 3 to 5pm on Wednesday, January 18, 2023 in the Charbonneau Funeral Home, 30 Pleasant St., in Ware. A Graveside Service with Military Honors will be held at 10am on Thursday, January 19, 2023 in St. Mary Cemetery, South St., in Ware. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Second Chance Animal Shelter, P.O. Box 136, in East Brookfield, MA 01515.
