Donald L. Prouty, Jr.

Donald L. Prouty, Jr., 61, of Hardwick, died on Thursday, July 4, 2019 at Baystate Mary Lane Hospital after being suddenly stricken ill.

He leaves his wife Jean M. (Duval) Prouty of Hardwick; two sons, Donald L. Prouty, III  and his wife Pam, and Brad A. Perez and his wife Jamie; two daughters, Laura M. Prouty, and Misty J. Perez-Truedson and her husband David Truedson; his mother, Shirley A. Chaisson; two brothers, Kenneth Prouty and his wife Cheryl, and Russell Prouty and his companion Kim; one sister, Ann-Marie Nye and her husband Kenneth; nine grandchildren, Ronald, Mackenzie, Alexys, Elijah, Rylie, Isaac, Lucas, Theo, and Pippa, as well as many nieces, nephews, and friends.  He was born in Ware, son of Shirley A. (Dubois) and the late Donald L. Prouty, Sr.

Donald was full of joy, always had a smile on his face and was always there to help others. Donald worked for the Town of Hardwick Highway Department for the past 30 years. He enjoyed horseback riding, flying his powered parachute, bartering, snowmobiling, auctions and supper out with friends. He looked forward to the local fairs and always had a tractor ready for the pulls. He served on the Town of Hardwick Cemetery for several years.  He had a special relationship with his wife and children and was especially close with his grandchildren who will continue their holiday tradition of making waffles like Poppy. Family and friends, keep “Haying while the sun shines” and thinking of Don.

Calling hours for Donald will be held on Monday, July 8, 2019 from 4 to 7PM in the Varnum Funeral Home, Inc., 43 East Main St., in West Brookfield.  A Funeral Service for Donald will be held on Tuesday, July 9, 2019 at 10AM in the funeral home.  Burial will be in Hardwick Cemetery following the service.
